Outdoor Alliance unites outdoor enthusiasts to conserve public lands. As a coalition of national advocacy organizations, they empower individuals to advocate for conservation and build relationships with decision-makers to protect public lands.
outdooralliance.orgOutdoor Alliance needed an updated website but had a limited budget, focusing on design direction and content restructuring rather than a full-scale redesign. Another designer worked on the information architecture while I took on the visual design. Th primary goals were to modernize the site and align it more effectively with their existing brand identity, which had been poorly executed on due to limited internal design support.
The main challenge was working within the client’s constraints, which required keeping the website on Squarespace for easy maintenence.
First, I created clear documentation for overall site styles, like typography, buttons, and navigation. This was to simplify the design specs for their team, who lacked expertise in Figma and development. I also provided rational and other info in comments across all deliverables, to help communicate my reasoning but also for extra guidance in the actual build-out process.
Second, I created a high-fidelity mockup of the homepage. Collaborating with another designer to apply our IA restructure and to better highlight important content. This processes required back-and-forth between a test Squarespace site to ensure my designs were feasible with the constraints of the platform and template.
The client was very pleased with the design and the updated website seamlessly coincided with their 10-year anniversary celebration.
Thank you so much--truly, I cannot believe how beautiful, clean, and legible the whole site is. You guys are magical.
